THE MISSION OF THE VOLUNTEER PROGRAM:The Living Arts Centre Volunteer Program provides opportunities for members of the community to make personal contributions of time, energy, and skills to help the organization achieve its mission. These opportunities will be delivered in a planned and deliberate manner that is consistent with the management of the entire organization. This direction and management will be attentive to the diversity of the community and its growth, as well as to the changing needs of the organization. There’s something for everyone!Check out these volunteer positions all over the Centre at various levels of commitment. Whether you have a few hours here and there, or want to come in once a week – there is something here for you. Volunteer Opportunities Available: USHER MEET AND GREET OFFICER INFORMATION OFFICER OUTREACH AMBASSADORS GALLERY ATTENDANT GIFT SHOP ATTENDANT ARTS PROGRAMMING YOUTH VOLUNTEERS UsherAs a key member of the Front of House Team, ushers greet, direct, and seat patrons, monitor theatre entrances, assist patrons with special needs, prepare and distribute programs, and count ticket stubs. In addition our ushers provide assistance in emergency situations. Living Arts Centre Ushers provide the “red carpet” treatment to our theatre patrons. They are integral to our promise of superior customer service and excellence in programming. Minimum Commitment: Four shifts per month and twelve months of service. Meet and Greet OfficerMeet and Greet officers are the warm, inviting personalities who welcome visitors and patrons upon entering the Living Arts Centre. MEET AND Greet officers help direct guests and answer any questions regarding the Centre and events. A working knowledge of the facility is required. This position works closely with the front of house staff and ushers to provide excellent customer service. Minimum time commitment: Three shifts per month and twelve months of service. Information OfficerThe Information Desk is an important hub of the Living Arts Centre and a focal point during events. Information Officers help direct guests and answer any questions regarding the Centre. They perform their duties from the Information Desk. A working knowledge of the facility is required. Meeting and Greeting is also an important role of the Information Officers. In this role, volunteers are stationed at areas to welcome visitors in a warm and friendly manner. Minimum Commitment: Two shifts per month and six months of service. Outreach AmbassadorsOutreach Ambassadors volunteer within the marketing department to staff the portable, interactive Outreach Booth. This allows the Living Arts Centre to promote itself on a one-to-one basis with the public. It is only through volunteer staffing of this booth that promotion of this kind is possible. Outreach Ambassadors also assist with various assignments such as office administration, program preparation, and in-house promotional activates. Minimum time commitment: Two Shifts per Month and 12 months of service. Gallery AttendantAs an integral part of the Studio Arts Team, volunteers in this position provide a variety of functions in two main areas. In our Gallery, volunteers provide information about the current exhibition, answer inquiries about the visual arts areas, resident artists, educational programming, and upcoming exhibitions. In addition, volunteers provide general backup to the Studio Arts Department as general support for Studio Arts Programming. Minimum Commitment: One shift per week and six months of service. Gift Shop AttendantA Gift Shop Attendant provides excellent customer service and assistance to Living Arts Centre patrons, both on the telephone and in-person. These volunteers answer incoming calls and provide information regarding the Centre, as well as direct calls to the appropriate contacts. A working knowledge of the facility and programming is required. In addition, these volunteers maintain a working knowledge of the artwork in the gift shop. They operate a computer-based cash register, reconcile day-end receipts, open and close the gift shop, assist with inventory control, assist with the gift shop upkeep. Previous retail experience is an asset. Minimum Commitment: One shift per week and six months of service. Arts Programming Youth VolunteersThe Living Arts Centre has lots of great volunteer opportunities for youth ages 15-18 including Volunteer Camp Assistant, Volunteer Community Courses Assistant and Junior Events and Project team member.
