SCHOOL PERFORMANCES – 2010-2011


Check out our school performances for the 2010 – 2011 season! It’s not too early to book school performances for 2010 – 2011. Call our School Sales Representative at 905-306-6009 or email school.bookings@livingarts.on.ca

All performances are 60 to 70 minutes in length unless otherwise noted, and include a question and answer period. Performances have been selected to meet Ontario Curriculum objectives and have study guides with curriculum connected ideas for pre and post performance activities.

Eric Carle’s cherished children’s books Little Cloud, Mixed-up Chameleon and The Very Hungry Caterpillar are re-told on stage in French language in this captivating performance using larger-than-life black-light puppetry. The Very Hungry Caterpillar teaches as well as entertains as students will be encouraged to participate in the telling of each story.

ROMEO AND JULIET

Shakespeare Series: Purchase tickets for Romeo and Juliet & MacBeth for $12 per person, per show

Shakespeare’s tragic story of two young lovers is brought to life in this unique production. Presented in-the-round and with an ethnically diverse cast, the audience is taken on a journey through love, faith and fate with Romeo and Juliet. Forward Theatre’s innovative and accessible productions will excite students about Shakespeare.

Connect Literacy and the Arts with this performance drawn from Leo Lionni’s books; Swimmy, Frederick and Inch by Inch. Swimmy is a tiny fish who uses ingenuity to fend off danger. Frederick, a poetic mouse, makes everyday life an artful experience. A lovable inchworm shares his faculty for measuring absolutely everything. This show features an assortment of innovative puppetry styles as well as an original music score.

KINOBE AND SOUL BEAT AFRICA

Celebrate Black History Month with Kinobe and Soul Beat Africa. Featuring traditional African instruments and music – koras, kalimbas, adungus, endongos, ngonis and drums – that blend with guitars and keyboards, this show draws on influences from around the globe. Kinobe shares songs and stories from his homeland that will help to enrich student’s understanding of African music and culture.

PETER AND THE WOLF

Peter and the Wolf is a musical symphony for young audiences, accompanied by a narrator. The sounds of the trumpets, French horn, trombone and tuba bring to life the characters based on Serguei Prokofiev’s traditional symphony. Students will learn how the musicality of an instrument can tell the story of different characters and settings. In an original and convincing fashion, the Impact Brass Quintet revisits the famous musical tale with vigour, spirit… and much laughter!

Tilt sound+motion’s Slept Away (red dream, blue dream) is a journey into the world of dreams through contemporary dance. Dream sequences referencing literature and pop-culture are created through dance that mimic the world of dreams; falling asleep leads to the sinking of the Titanic, which then turns into a Romeo and Juliet duet on a sea of love; Ophelia, running away from Hamlet, ends up in the world of Dracula. Engage your students in critical thinking around contemporary dance as the work takes students through a vivid kinetic and sensory journey.

Join the bilingual artist Roland Bibeau as he shares his love for French with you and your students! Roland’s high energy performance includes video with visual lyrics and lots of movement so students can practice oral French language skills while having fun. Roland comes to the Living Arts Centre with over 20 years experience performing his lively songs at Children’s Festivals, schools, theatres and arenas all over Canada and has recently released the new album “Français! Français!” with fellow “Edu-rocker” Etienne.
